6-Inch K-Style Gutters in Jemez Pueblo, NM

6-Inch K-Style Gutters in Jemez Pueblo, NM

Most houses get 5-inch K-style gutters, and for a modest roof that is fine. The trouble starts with large roof planes, steep pitches, or a valley that pours two slopes of water into one short stretch of gutter. In a heavy storm the 5-inch trough fills and water sheets over the front lip.

A 6-inch K-style gutter holds roughly 40 percent more water than a 5-inch one. It is usually paired with a 3x4 inch downspout instead of the standard 2x3, which roughly doubles how fast water can leave the gutter. That downspout size matters as much as the gutter. A big trough draining through a small outlet still backs up.

Jemez Pueblo, NM Gutter Installation crews in Jemez Pueblo, NM look at roof area, pitch and where the valleys land before recommending gutter installation in 6-inch. On a lot of homes, the answer is 6-inch on the back where the big slopes are and 5-inch on the front where they are not, so the look from the street stays the same.

Signs your current gutters are undersized:

• Overflow at one corner every storm, even when clean
• Mulch washed out in a line under the drip edge
• Water streaks on the siding below the gutter
